She did her schooling from Manav Mandir High School, Mumbai, and excelled in her academics.
She graduated in science from Jai Hind College, Mumbai.
Her younger brother, Karan Trivedi, is also a theatre actor and voice-over artist.
Ami was born to Tushar Trivedi and Jaya Trivedi in a Gujarati family in Mumbai.
She was keen to study medicine and wanted to be a doctor but that didn't happen. As a child artist, she acted in Hindi serials like Hamrahi and Zee Horror Show in small cameo roles.
In 1994, she acted in Prakash Jha's telefilm Didi which focused on education of female children in rural areas.
